St. Symeon Church is a small, but growing parish of the Orthodox Church in America, Southern Diocese, composed primarily of American converts to Orthodoxy, along with Romanians and Russians. The community is committed to keeping the Faith as transmitted by the Apostles to the first Fathers of the Church and preserved in the Holy Orthodox Church. There are links on this site for further information on Orthodoxy. Visitors are always welcome at St. Symeon’s! Many of us started our journey as “visitors”. We say to all, "Come and see!” Come and see and experience the unchanged Christian Faith – the Orthodox Church! |
"Unbelievers, those who believe with difficulty, or believe in part, are those who do not show their faith through works. Apart from works the demons also believe (James 2:19) and confess Christ to be God and Master. 'We know who you are' (Mk. 1:24), they say, 'You are the Son of God' (Mt. 8:29), and elsewhere, 'These men are servants of the Most High God' (Acts 16:17). Yet such faith will not benefit the demons, nor even humans. This faith is of no use, for it is dead…"
St. Symeon the New Theologian
"Grace is not merely faith, but also active prayer. For the latter shows in practice true faith, made living by Jesus, for it comes from the Spirit through love. And so faith is dead and lifeless in a man who does not see it active in himself. More than that - a man has no right to be called faithful, if his faith is a bare word and if he has not in him a faith made active by love and the Spirit. Thus faith must be made evident by progress in works, or it must act in the light and shine in works, as the divine Apostle says: 'Show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works (James 2:18)."
